Roads and bridges across the state, including Cherokee County, were approved for improvement or replacement by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission at a cost of $863 million.
For Cherokee County, seven projects are scheduled for construction, replacement or commencing a design phase, with a total package cost for actual construction at $10.7 million.
Public Information Officer T. J. Gerlach broke down the projects and costs for fiscal years 2025 through 2029. The federal fiscal year runs from October to September.
Near Moody, a low-water bridge and approaches crossing 14-Mile Creek on 680 Road project is scheduled for replacement in 2025, at a cost of $1 million.
In 2026, a bridge crossing Pettit Creek on is on the calendar for replacement at a cost of $4.773 million and includes the realignment of Indian Road.
