July 26, 2021 WATTS, Okla. -- A low-water concrete crossing on the road to the under-construction WOKA Whitewater Park will be replaced, an official said. The Cherokee Nation will contribute $105,000 to the upgrade, Adair County District 3 Commissioner Larry Wood said. Cherokee Nation money for construction will be provided by tribal councilors Canaan Duncan of District 7 and Shawn Crittenden of District 8, both from Adair County. The councilors will split the cost -- $52,500 each, said Andy Quetone, Cherokee Nation's director of transportation. The water park on the Illinois River falls in Wood's district and also is within the Cherokee Nation's boundary. Railroad tracks are the first obstacle on Twin Falls Road, also known as East 610 Road, off U.S. 59, south of Siloam Springs. Then comes a dip and the low-water crossing on the gravel road that leads to the water park.
