TAHLEQUAH – For Tahlequah residents, the results of a study indicating Oklahoma is the second-best state for traffic congestion may come as a shock, but officials say current traffic issues are due to multiple construction projects finally coming to fruition.

The data produced by tomtom.com, ranks Oklahoma as second-best for traffic in the U.S. The results indicate that on average it takes 10 minutes to cover 6.2 miles in a car in the state, and 78 hours a year are wasted in traffic.

Ray Hammons, special projects coordinator with the city of Tahlequah, said the key to navigating the current traffic snarls is being aware and patient.

Two areas causing delays in Tahlequah are at the intersection of Muskogee Avenue and Bertha Parker Bypass and Muskogee Avenue at Fourth Street.
