Demolition of south Arkansas River bridge to begin soon

Demolition on the U.S. 62 south Arkansas River bridge is to begin after Thanksgiving, transportation engineers say.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation District 1 engineer Mattie Abbott said traffic is switching to the north bridge this week. Traffic on the north bridge will be one lane in each direction.

Abbott said construction of the south bridge should be completed at the end of 2025.

ODOT is replacing two bridges that have crossed the river for more than 50 years. The new bridges are expected to be wider and stronger than the existing ones.
