The Federal Highway Administration ordered all states in the U.S. to halt humorous messaging on electronic signs along highways.
They said humor can confuse drivers or diminish respect for the signs intent, yet some still believe the messaging's levity can be effective.
"There are some varying thought processes around the messaging," Bryce Boyer, a spokesperson for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, said. "At the federal level, some people believe they could be a distraction to drivers and we want to make sure divers eyes are staying on the road and not on these message boards.
