Work has begun in earnest on the State Highway 82 Bypass, and Oklahoma Department of Transportation predicts the completion of the first phase of two to be in 18 months, and the second phase of the project starts in 2026.
The construction picks up where East 82 Bypass goes from four lanes to two, and heads diagonally up to reconnect at S.H. 82/51.
"We’ll be moving a little less than a half mile to the west. It starts between Grand and Cedar – just south of Grand – and will continue on a four-lane divided highway, kind of at an angle to the northwest to where it meets Highway 51 Spur," said Chris Wallace, division engineer with ODOT.
From the S.H. 51 Spur the construction continues on a northwest angle with a two-lane highway up to where S.H. 82 goes east/west and it starts angling to the northwest just east of 492 Road, where it intersects with S.H. 82, Wallace said.
