Reconstruction of a portion of Hillcrest Drive is on track to finish two months early — and, a new program is allowing teenage drivers to learn about safely driving in work zones and win college scholarships.
Work on the voter-approved, $2.2 million Hillcrest Drive Rehabilitation project began in April, with a contractual completion date of February. In the first 93 days of the contract, 43 days of work were disrupted by heavy rainfall, flooding, unforeseen conflicts with utilities and design changes — however, the project is ahead of schedule and expected to be complete by the end of the year, said Micah Siemers, City of Bartlesville director of engineering.
“(Brent Bell Construction) has done an outstanding job in doing whatever it takes to make up for those days of lost work, including working weekends and other non-traditional ‘work days,’ and staying ahead of schedule on this project,” Siemers said in a statement.
