A $1 trillion infrastructure bill headed to President Joe Biden’s desk was blasted by members of Oklahoma’s congressional delegation but hailed by Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt as a major step toward long-needed investment in cities.

“This plan brings historic funding to core infrastructure needs, including roads and bridges, public transit, passenger rail, water infrastructure and broadband,” the mayor, a Republican, said Friday night in a series of tweets.

The bill gained House approval by a vote of 228 to 206 late Friday, with 13 Republicans in support. All five House members from Oklahoma, all Republicans, opposed the bill.

Rep. Stephanie Bice, R-Oklahoma City, said the bill would add $400 billion to the national debt and lacked changes to environmental regulations that can delay highway projects. She and other Oklahoma lawmakers also charged that only a portion of the money was going to “traditional infrastructure.”
