Rep. Peter DeFazio beat back political newcomer Alek Skarlatos’ challenge to win another term as the federal legislator in Oregon’s 4th District. As of Nov. 4, DeFazio, a Democrat first elected in the mid-’80s, had recorded 51.6% of the vote. The Republican, Skarlatos, had 46.3%, according to the Associated Press. During the current session of Congress, DeFazio has been the chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. With Democrats maintaining control of the chamber for the next two years, his chances of remaining as chairman are sound.
