Thousands of travelers will face detours on Interstate 35 with closures planned for a resurfacing of the highway just east of downtown Oklahoma City.
Work began Tuesday night on the stretch of I-35 between Interstate 40 and Interstate 44, a corridor that carries more than 75,000 vehicles a day.
Tim Gatz, director of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, warned the work will impact travel along I-44, I-40 and I-235.
“When we close interstates in metropolitan areas, it’s pretty significant,” Gatz said. “This will allow our contractors to get in there and get the work done as soon as possible.”
