State officials have proclaimed Oklahoma “top 10” for bridges, as both the governor and transportation director recently celebrated a No. 5 ranking for the fewest number of bridges in “poor” condition.
But while those accolades speak to bridges directly under state control, Oklahoma is a bottom 10 state when it comes to the condition of all bridges, as nearly one out of every 10 bridges across the state is rated as “poor” by the Federal Highway Administration, according to data analyzed by The Oklahoman.
“Continuing to improve bridge and highway conditions shows the commitment we’ve made to today’s transportation infrastructure needs while also ensuring a strong system for the future,” Gov. Kevin Stitt said last month.
