WASHINGTON (TND) — Discussions about rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge were underway Wednesday, just one day after a cargo ship crashed into the structure.
Six construction workers who were filling potholes on the bridge during the time of the collision are presumed dead, according to authorities. Divers continue to search for their remains.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said it's too soon to say how long it will take to reopen the Port of Baltimore or replace the bridge, noting that "it is not going to be simple."
Buttigieg didn't cite an exact cost or estimate, but said an emergency relief funding request already came in from Maryland's state Department of Transportation, which will be processed as soon as possible.
