Oklahoma’s Republican senators opposed a far-reaching infrastructure bill Tuesday, despite the promise of billions of extra dollars to fix Oklahoma’s roads, upgrade public transit, improve drinking water quality and expand broadband service.
Sen. Jim Inhofe, who backed major portions of the bill earlier this year in a Senate committee, said the final product was a “grab bag of bad policy decisions.” Sen. James Lankford said he opposed the legislation because it would increase the national debt.
The bill passed 69-30, with the support of 19 Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, of Kentucky, despite criticism from former President Donald Trump. The measure now goes to the House.
