Vote yes for bridge safety
On Tuesday, we will head to the polls and cast our ballot to address critical infrastructure needs in Norman. The last few years have made evident the necessity, if not urgency, for a thoughtful plan to deal with the aging bridges across our community. The state of Oklahoma found itself in a similar situation after decades of neglect and underfunding. With a smart strategy and the will to invest, Oklahoma went from nearly dead last to one of the best road and bridge systems in the country.
This dramatic about face did not happen overnight. Frankly it took time to address a transportation system that needed significant maintenance and upgrades. The legislature took politics out of the process and committed to substantial funding increases. Norman finds itself in a similar situation. Engineering experts have identified the 18 most critical bridges in our community that need to be addressed. If approved, over the next 10 years every city ward will see needed improvements.
