EDMOND — The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is gearing up for a significant, multi-year project aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety on Interstate 35, particularly in the busy stretch north of 2nd Street.
With resurfacing and bridge work already underway and expected to continue until the summer of 2025, ODOT officials said they’re responding to the growing traffic concerns in a rapidly developing area.
The current construction phase involves resurfacing I-35 from Memorial Road to 2nd Street and installing protected turnarounds at critical intersections. These turnarounds are designed to allow drivers to change direction safely without navigating through traffic lights.
ODOT officials said that these enhancements are crucial, especially as the interstate narrows from six lanes to four at 2nd Street, exacerbating congestion and creating safety concerns.
