Major road closures expected in downtown OKC as arena demolition set to begin

Significant disruptions are ahead for downtown as Oklahoma City prepares to start demolition of its old Cox Convention Center to make way for construction of a new $1 billion arena

In a conference call with dozens of hoteliers and business and property owners, David Todd, who is overseeing the project, said he expects demolition will start in March with work lasting six to nine months pending weather conditions. 

The old convention center, being vacated next month by current tenant Prairie Surf Studios, is across from the Wyndham Grand Hotel, the Sheraton Hotel and Courtyard by Marriott. Other hotels in close proximity include the Skirvin Hilton and Bricktown Renaissance Hotel.
