GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Depending on where you live, you may have heard the old saying that there are four seasons: fall, winter, spring, and construction. Among those places that are familiar with traffic cones in summer is Michigan, where researchers say the fix may be in the concrete they’ve developed.
There are plenty of factors that hinder Michigan’s infrastructure, but one of the biggest ones is the wear and tear on roads.
A team of researchers at Michigan State University is tackling the problem head-on with a new type of concrete that they claim is “flexible, self-heating and self-healing.” Not only could it save drivers all sorts of headaches, but it potentially could be a major money saver.
