CLAREMORE — Drivers traveling on Southaven Road must heed new stop signs at the road's intersection with the future State Highway 20.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation put up a sign in each direction Wednesday. ODOT spokesperson T.J. Gerlach said that part of Southaven handles about 2,500 to 2,700 cars a day — not enough for a stop light.
"However, we are installing a conduit underneath the roadway," Gerlach said. "If ODOT and the city of Claremore decide in the future that a signal is warranted or desired, then that conduit will be under there, which will accelerate the installation."
