ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - This week the Oklahoma Department of Transportation is installing wrong-way detection systems on access ramps between Marietta and Ardmore.
Bryce Boyer, Oklahoma Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, said the systems are intended to prevent wrong-way crashes on the interstate.
“Some have additional striping on the ground, some have some raised pavement,” Boyer said. “Others have additional signage and some even have signs that flash if you get to a certain point on the ramp, and let the driver know you are headed the wrong direction you need to turn around.”
Boyer said ODOT’s team figured out where wrong-way crashes are most likely to happen.
