Oklahoma Department of Transportation Newsroom August 31, 2023
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is hosting a virtual open house to present proposed improvements for I-35 near Thackerville in Love County. The purpose of the open house is to present the proposed design for widening I-35 to six lanes with shoulders and receive public input to aid the department in moving forward with the environmental studies, design and construction which is currently slated for 2027. The department, along with the Federal Highway Administration, is developing design plans to widen I-35 from just south of Thackerville north 4 miles to the recently completed bridge over US-77, between mile markers 3 and 8. This picks up the widening project recently completed between mile markers 1 and 3. The interstate will remain open and construction will be phased to maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction. The purpose of this project is to improve capacity of I-35 to accommodate existing and future traffic volumes, improve safety and enhance local and regional connectivity.
