TULSA, Okla. — The construction of a new flyover exit ramp at one of Tulsa's busiest highway junctions is complete.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation replaced the traditional cloverleaf exit ramp that helped eastbound I-44 get to northbound Highway 169. Now traffic doesn't have to stop and wait to merge.
"We were seeing a lot of congestion and even accidents in more populated areas where cloverleafs just can't handle that heavy volume of traffic anymore," said ODOT Spokesman T.J. Gerlach.
Gerlach said ODOT is not completely eliminating cloverleafs. You will still see them in rural and suburban interchanges, but in larger metropolitan areas, ODOT is favoring flyover ramps that allows traffic to keep going.
