Oklahoma City metro area drivers are set to experience a notable change on their local highways without affecting their pockets. The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) has officially decided to redesignate several key highways and toll roads as interstate highways, an initiative that will soon materialize through new signage across the city.
Oklahoma's Interstate Expansion
In a recent move by the OTA's board, significant routes such as the Kilpatrick Turnpike, Kickapoo Turnpike, and a segment of State Highway 152 near Will Rogers World Airport are slated for interstate status. This decision will soon see these routes bearing new interstate designations: I-344 for Kilpatrick Turnpike, I-335 for Kickapoo Turnpike, and I-240 for the specified portion of OK-152. Despite these changes, the OTA assures that the transition will be seamless for drivers, with the only noticeable difference being the road signage. Moreover, toll charges on these roads will remain unaltered, ensuring that the redesignation impacts only the visual and administrative aspects of highway travel.
