Oklahoma City engineers expect the city will need to spend about $14.2 million to upgrade streets and intersections around Tinker Air Force Base to accommodate plans to permanently close a two-mile section of Douglas Boulevard. The Oklahoma City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved closing Douglas Boulevard between SE 44 and SE 74 for expansion of the base. The closing will shut down a large part of the corridor between Interstate 40 and Interstate 240 where major property owners other than base and military contractors include the Oklahoma City Water Trust and Oklahoma Industries Authority.
