TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced a historic $800 million in grant awards for 510 projects through the new Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program, including six grants for communities in Oklahoma.
The competitive grant program was established by President Biden's historic, bipartisan infrastructure law, and provides $5 billion over five years for regional, local, and Tribal initiatives.
The funding will target high-crash sites in cities and support the U.S. Department of Transportation's comprehensive strategy to reduce roadway deaths, an occurrence that claims more than 40,000 lives each year.
