OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority on Tuesday awarded the first construction contract in the $5 billion, 15-year toll road improvement program called ACCESS.

The board approved a nearly $98.6 million contract with Duit Construction Co. for widening and reconstructing the Turner Turnpike between Bristow and Oklahoma 66 near Heyburn.

The widening project will go from mile post 197.26 to mile post 203.07.

The project picks up where Driving Forward, the last massive turnpike improvement project, left off with widening the Turner Turnpike from Sapulpa to Kellyville.

It will include a new Oklahoma 66 interchange at milepost 202.5 to mile post 204.6 for better access, including entrance and exit ramps for both eastbound and westbound lanes of the Turner Turnpike east of Bristow in Creek County, said Darian Butler, OTA engineering director.
