EDMOND, A Great Place to Grow Press Release Posted on: March 28, 2023
A public meeting on the upcoming Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) project to resurface US 77 and State Highway 66 – South Broadway and East Second Street – is set for 6 p.m. March 30 in Room 207 at the Downtown Community Center, 28 E. Main St. Representatives from ODOT, project contractor Haskell Lemon and the City of Edmond will be on hand to discuss details around the $9 million project, which is scheduled to begin in early April and estimated to take 6 months to complete, with cooperative weather. Preliminary project plans, presented to City Council during the March 27 meeting, include:
To mitigate the impact to daily traffic, work on the majority of this project will take place at night, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Beginning in early April, repair a road base under Broadway's southbound lanes, just south of its intersection with 15th Street. This work will take place during the day but is expected to take only about a week, with cooperative weather.
Strengthening and smoothing several blocks of Second Street's concrete surface between the bridge over I-35 and where asphalt paving begins a few blocks to the west.
Mobilize two complete resurfacing teams once weather conditions permit. Those teams will mill away and replace the top-2 inches of asphalt across 40 lane miles covering East Second to Broadway, and along Broadway from its intersection with Second south to Edmond's city limits.
Repaving work on Broadway and Second Street is scheduled to start in May and include intermittent median closures on Broadway.
A video of the presentation to the City Council can be found at https://youtu.be/eSK3_JgT-vI. Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures and short-term impacts to driveways along the business route. ODOT and Haskell Lemon will work with businesses along both roadways to, as much as possible, ensure access by motorists to those businesses is available. ODOT and Haskell Lemon are working with the City of Edmond to ensure project updates are available, and that contact information for project questions and concerns is available. ODOT will have a project update web page at https://tinyurl.com/346pn9ub. Questions or concerns can be emailed to odotinfo@odot.org. ###
