Drivers can expect to see some major changes northeast of Tahlequah this spring, as State Highway 82 undergoes realignment construction.
Work will include the addition of three roundabouts at some high-traffic intersections.
“Highway 82 North is a very high-traffic area, and we respond to a lot of crashes [there],” Cherokee County Sheriff Jason Chennault said. “I believe the new construction, from what I understand, will help some of those problems. Our big worry is traffic congestion in the area while the highway is being built.”
During its Dec. 4 meeting, the Oklahoma Transportation Commission awarded a contract on two projects near Tahlequah. The first project on S.H. 82 will relocate a portion of the highway. The second project will resurface and add shoulders to seven miles of S.H. 51 between Tahlequah and Hulbert.
