Designs are complete and utilities are being moved as the Oklahoma Department of Transportation prepares to begin the second phase of the State Highway 20 realignment project.
The second phase of the project includes adding five miles of new roadway from the Verdigris River to the Will Rogers Turnpike, adding a bridge over the BNSF rail line and Route 66, adding a new intersection, improving the Route 66 and King Road intersection, adding a new bridge over the Turnpike and adding a new Oklahoma Turnpike Authority interchange.
ODOT Public Information Officer T.J. Gerlach said bids will be open Oct. 20 and should be awarded during the Nov. 7 commission meeting. The estimated cost of the project is around $53 million, he said.
“The project likely won’t begin until at least fall of 2023,” he said. “We expect it will take 24 to 30 months to complete once work begins.”
