As work continues on an extensive sidewalk project connecting all areas of The Village, the city envisions a pedestrian/bicycle bridge on Britton Road over the Lake Hefner Parkway connecting the city to the 27-Mile Oklahoma City Bert Cooper Trail System. "We would like to include the bike trail (in the bridge project), but the cost might be prohibitive,” said City Manager Bruce Stone. "It could be five years before we start the project. "We currently have some bond money that hasn’t been used, but it would not come close to paying for a bridge over the parkway,” he said. "We won’t know for sure (how much the project will cost) until after we get bids for the remaining sidewalk west of May on Britton, but I think it will be approximately $400,000.” Stone said the city will investigate funding sources through the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments, Oklahoma Department of Transportation and possibly the City of Oklahoma City. Meanwhile, work continues on the sidewalk project as the city council approved a $880,480 bid by Rudy Construction for additional sidewalk construction north of Britton Road.
