Why has this OKC bridge been closed for two years? Public Eye investigates

A popular commuter route between Midwest City and Edmond has been closed for over two years.

What's taking so long?

That's the question posed to Public Eye by a reader, who would usually commute between the two cities along Midwest Boulevard. Two years seems like quite a while, so we dug into the story. The problem: A surprising closure

The bridge on Midwest Boulevard that leads drivers over Crutcho Creek was originally constructed in 1967 and is more than 50 years old.

During a planned bridge inspection in May 2021, several structural components of the bridge were found to be deteriorated beyond repair, Oklahoma City Public Works spokesperson Shannon Cox said. Due to the deterioration and safety concerns, the bridge was closed.
